CoronaVirus COVID-19 Important Information

We have had to make the difficult decision to change how we look after our patients to be able to remain open during this unprecedented time. Our priority is to keep our doctors and staff healthy enough to look after all our patients while still offering a service to those acutely unwell.

Our problem is that based on what has happened in many parts of the world, if even one COVID-19 patient infects our doctors and/or staff and other patients, we will be forced to close which will impact all of our patients. This is very hard to screen for because COVID-19 can look like any other infection, plus we cannot test due to a lack of testing equipment, and travel screening is becoming irrelevant since it is now in the country.

What you need to know as patients of our practice.

All appointments will be screened and anyone with infective symptoms of any sort will not be allowed into the practice without instructions from a doctor by phone first.

To minimise people getting sick in our waiting room, we still require masks to be worn to protect our vulnerable patients and staff.

We would ask that you turn up for your appointment alone if you are an adult. And those with children to limit other family members coming.

Important information to help you work out if you need to be seen.

Testing: We do not have the facilities to test for COVID-19.

Certificates: We cannot issue you a certificate for clearance based on testing. If you have exposure to someone directly with COVID-19 or you are unwell or you have travelled back to Australia then you must isolate for 14 days.

Travel: We cannot assist you with letters regarding refunds due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

Mixed Billing Doctors Acacia Ridge

We would like to advise that Acacia Ridge Family Practice and Algester Medical Centre are now mixed billing.

Unfortunately, rising costs of staff wages, medical supplies, insurances and utilities, coupled with the fact that the Government has only increased the standard consultation fee by $4 over the last 9 years, it is financially no longer possible to continue to provide high quality medical service whilst bulk billing all of our patients.

You may incur and out-of-pocket, except for the following patient groups who will continue to be bulk billed:

Children under 16 years of age
DVA Card Holders
Patients over 65 years of age
Care plans, health assessments
Government-funded immunisations

Concession card holders will still incur a fee, although the out of pocket amount will be lower.

We have kept the fee as low as possible and patients will be required to pay for their consultation, in full on the day of their appointment. Your Medicare rebate will be processed during payment and will be back in your account within 24 hours.

All telehealth appointments, and appointments after 6pm and ALL weekend appointments will attract an out of pocket fee, please speak to one of our receptionists when you book your appointment.
